Hoverfly

(Syrphidae)

Hoverflies even have multiple functions: their larvae eat aphids and therefore reduce the population of aphids, whereas adult hoverflies are important for pollination. From hatching to developing into a fly, a single larva eats up to 700 aphids. The adult hoverfly likes to visit umbellifers and composites, where it feeds on nectar, pollen and honeydew. The hoverfly can be recognized by its “hovering” over the flowers.”

Cooperation "Biodiversity and Environmental Protection

As part of the educational initiative "Biodiversity and Environmental Education", a green lawn was transformed into a colourful, species-rich garden on this site by the pupils of the Längenfeld Primary School and Middle School Nature Park Schools.
