Common Lungwort

(Pulmonaria officinalis)

• Common lungwort is the first food source for hairy-footed flower bees, bumblebees queens, hoverflies and butterflies.
• The nectar value is very good but also the pollen value.
• The plant is an important food plant for four species of caterpillars, like euchalcia modestoides
• The blossoms of the plant change their colour from red to blue after pollination.

As part of the educational initiative "Biodiversity and Environmental Education", a green lawn was transformed into a colourful, species-rich garden on this site by the pupils of the Längenfeld Primary School and Middle School Nature Park Schools.
