(Gonepteryx rhamni)
Common Brimstone butterfly urgently needs the occurrence of buckthorn, because these are the main food plants of its caterpillars. The adult butterfly, in turn, needs the nectar of the flowers and is important for the pollination of the plants. In winter these butterflies hibernate in splits of tree trunks or in the thicket of bushes. It contains an endogenous antifreeze (glycerin), which means that its bodily fluids do not freeze.
