Common Barberry

(Berberis vulgaris)


Common Barberry carries shiny red berries in September, but only the fruits of domestic species and of korea barberry are eatable. The fruits are food until late winter for 19 types of birds and 7 species of small mammals.This shrub is a great honey plant for wild- and honeybees. Also butterflies, bumblebees and hoverflies like to visit their blossoms.

Cooperation "Biodiversity and Environmental Protection

As part of the educational initiative "Biodiversity and Environmental Education", a green lawn was transformed into a colourful, species-rich garden on this site by the pupils of the Längenfeld Primary School and Middle School Nature Park Schools.
