For a long time, the Ötz valley had been regarded as an area with no archeological traces at all. Since the discovery of Ötzi at the Tisenjoch in 1991, it has moved into the limelight of archeology. Several important discoveries, partially in alpine terrain, have been identified around Ötzi. Most can be visited in the course of a simple hike. Some are indicated and information is provided with wayside markers or on special copper poles.
